Understanding NDIS Cleaning Rates in 2026

by | Feb 2, 2026 | NDIS

Keeping a clean and tidy home isn’t always easy, and for many people with disability, the task is a real barrier to quality of life. Enter the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which plays an essential role in supporting independence and personal well-being.

One example of these supports is NDIS cleaning. But while it’s an incredibly helpful service, understanding the costs and how your plan works can feel confusing at first! Between price limits, plan types, and provider arrangements, there’s a lot to learn.

We’re here to break down NDIS house cleaning costs in 2026, from how prices are set to how billing works. That way, you can make the most out of the services that support your day-to-day life.

About NDIS Pricing and Plans | NDIS House Cleaning Rates 2026 | How NDIS Cleaning Rates Work

What are NDIS Cleaning Services?

The NDIS is run by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) to help people with disability access everyday supports to make their lives easier.

These supports include transportation, assistive technology, and yes, cleaning!

NDIS cleaning allows participants to maintain a safe and comfortable home. It assists in your day-to-day living while improving quality of life.

Many providers (like us at Maid2Match!) tailor their services to fit a participant’s situation, rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach. That flexibility assures that these services are practical and genuinely valuable for your everyday life.

What to Know About NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Plans

NDIS cleaning rates aren’t set by individual companies! Instead, they follow fair pricing rules set by the NDIA to ensure fairness and transparency across services.

By understanding your NDIS plan and the pricing arrangements, you can make the most out of your support services.

What are the different NDIS plan types?

The NDIS offers 3 main plan types with different ways to manage funding. These determine who handles your funds and how you pay for supports such as home cleaning.

Agency-Managed

HOW IT WORKS
The NDIA manages funds and coordinates with providers on your behalf for billing purposes

PROVIDERS AVAILABLE
Registered providers only

PRICING ARRANGEMENT
Must adhere to NDIS price limits

Plan-Managed

HOW IT WORKS
Plan Manager oversees funds and coordinates with providers

PROVIDERS AVAILABLE
Registered or unregistered service providers

PRICING ARRANGEMENT
Must adhere to NDIS price limits

Self-Managed

HOW IT WORKS
The participant manages their own budget using their NDIS funds

PROVIDERS AVAILABLE
Registered or unregistered service providers

PRICING ARRANGEMENT
Provider prices do not have to adhere to NDIS limits

Self-managed NDIS participants have more flexibility, so they may choose unregistered providers that charge their own rates. Just be sure to remain within your overall budget!

Maid2Match works with all plan types, making it easier to access support regardless of how your funding is set up.

What is the NDIS price guide and how does it work?

The NDIS price guide refers to the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, which are set by the NDIA.

Every year, the NDIA conducts an Annual Pricing Review to evaluate and calculate the highest amount a participant can pay for NDIS services. They then outline those rules in the price guide that takes effect in July, around the beginning of each financial year.

Why are NDIS prices capped?

The NDIA sets pricing arrangements to ensure that participants receive fair and consistent support that is sustainable for the NDIS.

Price caps help protect participants from being overcharged and maintain stable funding across your plan’s duration. At the same time, providers get to charge appropriate rates for quality services.

How do I know if my plan includes NDIS cleaning?

Cleaning services can be funded by the NDIS if they’re considered “reasonable and necessary”. That means these services provide genuine support for daily living.

You’ll need to review your plan documents to confirm your budget allocation before you look at pricing. You should see a Core Supports budget that has “Assistance with Household Tasks” or even “Assistance with Daily Living.”

The amount allocated from your budget will depend on your needs. Some participants may only need a fortnightly clean, while others may need several services per week.

If you’re unsure, you can always speak with NDIS support services (or your nominated guardian) for clarification.

For those still applying for an NDIS plan, you can request cleaning support during your planning meeting! Explain the challenges you face with maintaining a safe living environment with your disability and how professional cleaning will help.

Current NDIS House Cleaning Rates (2026)

House cleaning falls within the NDIS Core Supports budget, which provides participants with assistance in day-to-day tasks. You’ll find the rates listed under the “Assistance with Household Tasks” category in the price guide.

For 2025–2026, the maximum national NDIS house cleaning rate is $58.03 per hour. The rates are higher for remote ($81.24) and very remote ($87.05) areas.

Here’s a summary of the maximum hourly rates for supports included in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits:

Keep in mind that many NDIS cleaning providers have a minimum booking time of 2 hours to give enough time to complete tasks properly. It also makes scheduling services more efficient.

How NDIS Cleaning Rates Work for Participants

Understanding NDIS domestic cleaning rates is about more than just pricing! The service details, billing, and plan type affect how your funding is used.

Here, we’ll walk you through how NDIS cleaning works for you, including what tasks are covered, how providers charge, and how billing works.

What does NDIS cleaning usually cover?

NDIS cleaning services can vary between providers! Quality cleaners like Maid2Match will tailor the service to a participant’s needs and preferences, and prioritise what matters to you.

Still, most NDIS services cover routine housekeeping tasks such as:

  • Dusting and wiping surfaces
  • Vacuuming and mopping floors
  • Cleaning bathrooms and kitchens
  • Decluttering and organising rooms
  • Changing linens and making the bed

Cleaners can also perform specialised tasks such as disinfecting surfaces or wiping down rehabilitation equipment.

Do NDIS cleaning hourly rates vary between providers?

Yes, cleaning rates can vary between providers, although any variation must fall within the pricing rules for registered providers.

Several factors can affect NDIS domestic cleaning rates, such as:

  • COMPLEXITY OF SERVICE: More specialised or intensive services may incur rates closer to the cap
  • LOCATION: Price per hour can vary based on your city or suburb
  • TIME OR DATE: Services outside of standard hours (e.g. evenings or weekends) cost more

Keep in mind that, based on these factors and their situation, Plan-Managed or Self-Managed participants may pay rates higher than the cap.

How are NDIS participants billed for cleaning services?

After your cleaning service, the provider will send an NDIS-compliant invoice! It should have a unique invoice number and the NDIS support item number for house cleaning (01_020_0120_1_1).

The invoice should also include details like:

  • Australian Business Number (ABN)
  • NDIS business name and bank account
  • Participant’s name and NDIS number
  • Participant’s address
  • Service details (date, hours worked)
  • Service hourly rate and travel costs
  • Total cost of service

Make sure incidental costs like equipment are built into the hourly rate, not listed separately.

Your NDIS plan type will affect how and where your cleaning service is billed:

Agency-Managed

INVOICE PROCESS
Invoice sent to NDIA through myplace Provider Portal

PAYMENT PROCESS
NDIA pays directly

PARTICIPANT VISIBILITY
Participant doesn’t see invoices as NDIA handles billing on their behalf

Plan-Managed

INVOICE PROCESS
Invoice sent to Plan Manager or Support Coordinator

PAYMENT PROCESS
Plan Manager or Support Coordinator arranges payment

PARTICIPANT VISIBILITY
Participant may be asked to approve invoices before Plan Manager releases pay

Self-Managed

INVOICE PROCESS
Invoice sent to participant after payment for reimbursement claims

PAYMENT PROCESS
Service is charged to the participant’s debit or credit card after completion, then reimbursed by NDIA

PARTICIPANT VISIBILITY
Participant directly handles invoices and manages their own reimbursement

For Plan-Managed participants, you may have to approve or decline the invoice before payment is processed. Use this time to review the charges and raise any questions! Unapproved invoices can result in delays in payments, so if you have concerns, it’s best to contact your Plan Manager or cleaning provider promptly so they can find a solution.

For Self-Managed participants, since you’ll be handling invoices and reimbursements directly, it’s important to understand the rates and charges upfront. Review your service agreement carefully, and make sure it clearly outlines hourly rates and travel costs. That way, you know what to expect when the invoice arrives.

At Maid2Match, our NDIS support team ensures invoices are clear and compliant, and processed smoothly across all plan types. For Agency-Managed participants, our dedicated Accounts team will upload your invoices to the myplace Provider Portal.

What happens if my needs change during my NDIS plan?

If your support needs have changed, you or your coordinator can request a plan reassessment! The NDIS itself doesn’t automatically review plans once in place.

During reassessment, you will need to provide evidence that you require additional support. That could be an increase in frequency of cleaning or a higher budget, so long as the change in your plan is “reasonable and necessary” and meets NDIA guidelines.

Work alongside your Plan Manager, Support Coordinator, or NDIS Planner so they can help tailor your plan to your needs.

FAQs About NDIS Pricing for Cleaning

NDIS cleaning costs can raise a lot of practical questions, especially if you’re accessing support services for the first time. Small details can cause confusion, like travel costs or services that are not included.

Here, we cover common questions about NDIS rates so you know what to expect.

Can NDIS providers charge more than the NDIS rate?

Registered NDIS providers may not charge more than the maximum rate set by the Price Guide.

Unregistered providers can set their own house cleaning rates, but must not charge participants more for services than non-NDIS customers.

Do NDIS hourly rates include cleaning products and travel time?

Generally, your NDIS budget covers the cost of the provider’s hourly rate.

Equipment costs are covered if the provider includes them in their hourly rates. NDIS funds may not cover these charges if they are billed separately on the invoice.

Travel costs are generally included but must have their own line and support number.

Many companies, like Maid2Match, offer rates that include the cleaner’s work hours and equipment cost. For travel costs for NDIS cleaning, these are typically based on 2 factors:

  • Where the participant’s home is
  • Where the cleaner is travelling from

Rest assured, we’ll discuss travel time costs and cleaning rates with you when arranging your initial service agreement!

Can I negotiate rates with my NDIS service provider?

It depends on the company, but in general, yes — both providers and participants may negotiate for lower prices.

Remember, the NDIS Pricing Arrangements represent the maximum that registered providers are allowed to charge. They can offer lower prices depending on demand, location, and experience level.

What is the difference between registered and unregistered NDIS providers?

Registered providers are what the name says — companies registered with the NDIS! They go through official verification, and their staff members undergo NDIS Worker Screening Checks (and Working With Vulnerable People Checks if necessary).

A registered provider is also audited by the NDIS and should follow the Pricing Arrangements.

You or your Plan Manager can find registered cleaning providers directly through the NDIS Provider Finder or the NDIS website.

Here at Maid2Match, we’ve been registered with the NDIS since 2018! Our NDIS cleaners are fully vetted and trained to deliver services with respect and empathy.

On the other hand, unregistered providers are not registered with the NDIS. They do not have to adhere to NDIS price limits, but must charge reasonable costs. They are still expected to adhere to the Code of Conduct and must undergo their own Worker Screening Check.

Unregistered providers should also have a valid ABN and be able to issue NDIS-compliant invoices.

What is NOT included in NDIS cleaning?

Some cleaning tasks or service types fall outside standard NDIS-funded services, such as:

  • Bond cleaning
  • Mould cleaning or remediation
  • Home maintenance and repairs
  • Outdoor tasks (e.g. external windows)
  • Cleaning and disinfection of biological hazards
  • Heavy-duty cleaning tasks (e.g. carpet steam cleaning)

Understanding what is allowed under NDIS funding helps set clear expectations and lessens the risk of miscommunications or denied claims.
