We Address 8 Myths About House Cleaning In Sydney

A simple search for a cleaning method can lead you down the rabbit hole of many cleaning hacks that will have you wondering what actually works and what doesn’t. There are plenty of cleaning myths from unconventional uses for ordinary household items to the cleaning items that people swear by. It’s time to put those myths to rest and find the truth behind them.

Vinegar Is a Magic House Cleaning Solution

Most cleaning hacks claim vinegar as the ultimate liquid you’re not using when it comes to household cleaning. The truth is that vinegar is more than capable of killing germs and getting rid of grime but only if you’re using it at its full strength. This simply means that if you dilute the vinegar with too much water probably won’t be as effective as you would like it to be. Sydney cleaners will also chime in here and tell you that vinegar can prove corrosive to surfaces such as wood ruining your furniture or tabletops instead of cleaning them.

Your Washing Machine Doesn’t Need Washing

They do a pretty great job of making laundry time a breeze, but it’s easy to forget that they don’t need to be cleaned. Every now and then, just like with other appliances in your home, your washing machine will need a deep clean to make sure it keeps performing at its peak. Luckily, it’s easy to do as you simply run the machine as usual on a hot wash cycle with some detergent and bleach. The machine will go through its cycle and be good as new once it’s done.

Domestic Cleaning Products Work Immediately

When is the last time you looked at the instructions on a cleaning product? Chances are you did the one time or never have. Most cleaning products come with instructions that outline how to get the best results from their use. Too often, we use a product and begin scrubbing away immediately wondering why the results aren’t as instant as they are in the commercials. The general rule of thumb with products is to let them sit for about 2-3 minutes to allow them to do their work and more importantly, actually kill the bacteria they promise to.

You’re Better Off Cleaning Your Dishes By Hand

The myth is that you would probably be better off washing your dishes by hand. The truth? Your dishwasher is actually saving you in ways you didn’t know. It might be an appliance, but a dishwasher is more efficient at saving water and energy when it comes to cleaning up. The machines also clean at high temperatures which means your dishes are not only clean, they are sterilized as well. You would save a lot more of your time (and money!) using the dishwasher.

You Need Specialty House Cleaning Items

A quick glance at the shelves in your grocery store is all you need to see all the different products companies are offering. There are products for your oven, bathroom, tiles, glass and the list goes on and on. If you had to buy a special item for everything that needs cleaning in your house you would need another one just to store them! Any reputable Sydney cleaners will tell you that over and above the general stuff, most of what you need is already in your kitchen. For example, you can get the grime out of your oven with a homemade paste with baking soda. Specialty cleaning items can sometimes do more harm than good, and your money is better not spent on them.

Using Chlorine Bleach for Cleaning Your Bathroom

Bleach is one of those smells that most people associate with ultra-hygiene. Maybe it’s the harsh smell of it or the fact that we’ve been led to believe it can clean virtually everything. The cold truth is that chlorine is probably the reason you can’t get the stains out of your bathroom. Chlorine actually makes the stains set more than lift them from the surface. Your bathroom stains are best removed by other bleach free products meant to do that particular job.

Use Newspaper for Your Cleaning Glass

The myth is that newspapers are the best cleaning tool to help give your windows the shine they deserve. Consider this another myth busted as wet newspaper is likely to leave with more work than you started out with because the ink can streak across your windows. It also tears easily which is hardly the most effective way to clean your windows. Try using cloths made out of microfiber as they will give you the best shine without the hassle.
